France is one of the
largest countries in Europe. Once a strongly Roman Catholic country,
today it is a needy mission field. Of the 59.8 million population,
74% claim to be Catholics, but only about 6% go to church regularly.
More than 16% of the people have no religious affiliation, or claim to be
atheists. There are over 500 sects working in France.
Evangelicals form only 0.63% of the population. Many immigrants from
North Africa live in the country, affording some missionaries the
opportunity to witness to an otherwise unreachable population of over four
million Muslims.
