The Republic of Uganda is a landlocked country straddling the equator.  Known as "the pearl of Africa" it is surrounded by Congo, Sudan, Kenya, Tanzania, and Rwanda.  About the size of Oregon, 15% of its total area is covered by lakes.  The country has been plagued by civil wars, famines, tribal killings, and AIDS.  A large percent of 25.3 million claim to be Christian, many however in name only.  Christian beliefs are often combined with traditional religion as well as Islam.  There are 7 assemblies with a strong and committed Ugandan leadership.  English is the official language.
