Taiwan is a
240-mile long, 85-mile wide island located about 100 miles off the coast
of southeast China; it is home to almost 22.6 million people. The
Republic of China (Taiwan's official name) is open to the Gospel and there
is religious freedom, but in 1984 the government imposed a ceiling on the
entry of missionaries. Mandarin is the official language; however,
Taiwanese is spoken in 70% of the homes, and
there are other large language or dialect groups needing to hear the
Gospel.
