Romania occupies the greater part of the lower basin of the Danube River system; its population is 21.6 million.  Most are Romanians, but Hungarians, Germans, and other ethnic groups, such as gypsies, are present.  The languages include Romanian, Hungarian, and German.  70% of the population are members of the Orthodox religion, 6% of the Catholic religion.  There is a growing interest throughout the country in New Age and Occult ideas.
