The Philippine archipelago, extending
1,152 miles from north to south, consists of over 7,000 islands; only
about 700 are inhabited and 60% are still unnamed. The population of
81.6 million is composed primarily of Malays and Chinese.
Approximately one-sixth of the population is concentrated in the Metro
Manila area. The official languages are Filipino (Tagalog), and
English. There is complete religious liberty in the Philippines
where today there are more than 165 assemblies located on only
eight of the islands.
